Is a Pipe Safety Shower Right for Me?

Due to their low installation costs, pipe showers are the most popular type of safety shower. However, despite its popularity, a pipe shower may not be best for your unique situation, especially if you work in a remote location or extreme conditions. To determine if pipe showers are the best option for you, ask yourself the following questions:

Do you have a reliable water source?

Remote locations may not have access to a pressurized plumbing system. Pipe shower works best when they have access to a well or municipal water source. If there is not access to a consistently reliable water source, consider employing tank-fed showers, like the EcoDrench.

Do your showers need to be in compliance with ANSI tepid water regulations?

If so, you will need to look into a recirculation system. You can learn about the most common non-compliance safety shower issues
here.

Are your showers located in a cold weather climate?

If so, you will have big issues if there isn’t a regular system maintenance program or other solutions to avoid freezing pipes and replacement parts. You also can read this article to learn more about cold weather safety showers.

Can you excavate at your location?

In order to run pipe, lines should be buried at least 24 inches deep, which may prevent installation. Many locations, such as oil and gas refineries, have underground systems which prevent digging. If you can’t excavate at your location, you may need to consider other solutions

Do your employees need showers as shelters from extreme weather?

In the case of severe weather, employees may need a retreat from the harsh elements. Hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, and other natural disasters can break safety shower lines, causing shower interruption when safety showers may be needed most. Many pipe showers may not offer adequate shelter, so look for a climate-controlled, enclosed cubicle shower which is structurally sound to resist hurricane-level winds.

For extraordinarily cold environments, the Glacier Extreme stands alone. Similarly, in extremely hot environments, the Tropic remains unmatched.
