Silver Nitrate in Water Treatment
The application of silver nitrate (AgNO3) on antibacterial properties has been going on since Roman times. An ionic compound, an atom or group of atoms that carry a charge as the result of losing or gaining electrons, can be positive or negative. One such ion that is produced from dissolved silver is silver nitrate or Ag+. The natural mineral that has a single positive charge protects against a range of both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, including:

- Bacillus
- Clostridium
- Listeria
- Staph
- Strep
Research shows it may also work on certain fungi, such as Aspergillus Niger, Candida albicans, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae and even Cryptosporidium. The use of silver nitrate in water filtration improves the microbiological efficacy of ceramic water filters, such as with Waterguard. When you place the canister into the water, it releases silver nitrate nanoparticles, which attracts the bacteria and filters them from your safety shower tank.
These physical properties of semi-conductivity, magnetism, and light emission (in the far infrared spectrum) disinfect the shower fluid, removing potentially dangerous bacteria that can cause health issues. Waterguard also prevents the build-up of scale, biofilm and rust, conditions that can affect water flow, valve operation and the growth of harmful bacteria.
What Waterguard Doesn’t Cover
Although Waterguard protects against many strains of bacteria, there are applications for which it doesn’t work; these include algae and yeast.
